KAWMET Pays Tribute to the Sailing Legend
Over four decades ago, the renowned sailor Henryk Jaskuła sailed into the port of Gdynia, marking a historic moment as the first Pole in history to successfully complete a solo circumnavigation of the globe. Setting sail on June 12, 1979, he concluded his extraordinary odyssey on May 20, 1980. At the age of 56, Captain Jaskuła, aboard the 14-meter "Dar Przemyśla," achieved a groundbreaking feat during his 344-day journey, breaking the world record for the longest time spent at sea alone.
On the occasion of his hundredth birthday anniversary, a statue honoring the honorary citizen of the city of Przemyśl will be erected on one of the central streets of Przemyśl. The four-hundred-kilogram monument of Captain Jaskuła, crafted by Marian Szajda, was cast in bronze at the KAWMET foundry. The foundry once again emerges in the public space thanks to its extraordinary castings. In this way, Captain Jaskuła, who has been an inspiration to many generations of sailing enthusiasts, will become an integral part of Przemyśl, the city of which he has been an honorary citizen since 2008.
